Difficult Access Cleaning

Dirt behind fixed plant or above a congested line is not solved by naming an access machine first. Difficult access cleaning starts by defining the exact work face, the obstacle and the activity that must remain protected nearby.

Behind fixed plant, above production lines and inside awkward structures, access and cleaning method are inseparable. A route that reaches the spot must also let us control the removed material.

Reaching dirt behind plant and at height

Access planning starts with where the cleaner can stand, how tools and hoses arrive, and what lies below or beside the task. Floor loading, fragile surfaces, vehicle routes and live processes can rule out an apparently simple option. Read our advice on high-level access planning for overhead work.

Consider a beam behind fixed ductwork: the nearest floor position may be blocked by a conveyor, while the clear side sits inside a vehicle route. The survey has to connect the exact work face with a position that is both reachable and usable.

It should also identify fragile surfaces, nearby people or product and any preparation another trade must complete before access equipment can enter.

Selecting access for each cleaning location

A safe view of the exact work face comes first. From there, the contractor traces a route from the floor to the required position, taking account of obstructions, fragile surfaces and equipment that must remain live.

The work zone keeps people and equipment away from falling debris, hoses and tools. At completion, the area is presented from the same safe viewpoint or inspection route agreed during the survey.

Sometimes an area cannot be reached without preparation by another trade. We include that dependency instead of pricing as if the obstacle were not there. Show us the difficult access point and include plans or safe photographs if available.

Three access questions to settle

Height alone does not select the access method. The floor position, obstructions and cleaning task decide whether the contractor can work from a platform, tower or another safe position.

Fixed equipment may need opening or moving by the site’s engineering team before the hidden surface is reachable. The survey also agrees how the result will be viewed, using a safe inspection position or permitted images where direct sight is limited.
