Roof spaces collect deposits long after routine housekeeping stops below. The contractor cleans at height for factories and warehouses where the housekeeping schedule has never reached the roof, containing the work so the areas below stay usable.
Beams, ducting and other overhead surfaces

The floor below changes the plan
An open loading bay may give a clear platform position, while the same-height beam above a fixed enclosure has no direct approach. Record the structure, obstructions and activity below together.
The site should also identify fragile services and anything that must stay live or protected. The deposit itself still needs describing before recovery equipment is selected.
Dust capture above working areas
Dust is loosened in short sections and collected at the point of disturbance, rather than brushed across beams or allowed to fall onto the line. The work order identifies the vacuum position, sealed collection route and bay below each overhead section. Different dust types or protected services receive separate sections instead of one general instruction for the complete roof.
Local capture follows the cleaner across the marked steelwork. Before the barrier moves, the site contact checks the treated beam faces from the agreed safe viewpoint and notes any ledge hidden by services.

Access depends on the floor as well as the height
The highest point alone does not determine the approach. Floor strength, fixed plant, racking, door sizes and live routes all affect whether powered access, a tower or another method is suitable. HSE’s work-at-height guidance explains the need to plan the work and use suitable equipment.
Dust should be identified before it is disturbed. Dry vacuum recovery may be appropriate for one deposit, while another needs different controls because of its process origin or combustible properties. The site must share available material information and ignition restrictions.
High surfaces are reviewed from an agreed safe viewpoint, using photographs where site rules allow. The completion record notes shadows, inaccessible faces and protected services rather than promising that every hidden ledge can be seen from the floor.
A neighbouring packing bay can remain open only when the closed bay contains falling material and equipment movement. Packing must stop if dust or access crosses that boundary.
Combustible dust may require different recovery equipment and controls. The material must be identified first; HSE guidance is the starting point where a combustible-dust risk may exist.
Sprinkler heads and detectors need to be protected or left outside the work limit. The site also decides how its fire systems are managed while overhead cleaning takes place.
A roof plan can distinguish beams above packing from services above an empty access bay. The two positions may need different protection and a different inspection view.
A beam boxed in by ductwork should be marked inaccessible if the agreed platform position cannot provide a safe line of sight; it is not silently counted as cleaned.
